ABSTRACT

This study investigates the integration of career development with social-emotional learning (SEL) in secondary schools of Enugu State, Nigeria. The study aims to determine how linking career guidance with SEL competencies enhances students’ self-awareness, goal-setting, decision-making, and interpersonal effectiveness. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, involving 600 students and 60 teachers from six Mission secondary schools in Enugu State. A structured questionnaire titled Career and Social-Emotional Learning Integration Scale (CSELIS) was used for data collection. The mean was employed as the main statistical tool for analysing responses, with a criterion mean of 2.50 used for decision-making. Results revealed that integrating career development into SEL significantly improves students’ motivation, self-management, and readiness for future careers. The study recommends embedding SEL-based career education into school curricula and training teachers on holistic guidance approaches.
